Winston-Salem- Jeanette Joyner Humbert, 76, of 2080 Royall Drive, Winston-Salem, died Tuesday, April 3, 2007, at her home.
She was born Feb. 19, 1931, in Asheville, to the late John C. Joyner Sr. and Edith Pickens Joyner. A graduate of Salem Academy and Meredith College, she taught in public schools and, since 1967, worked in real estate, currently at Prudential Carolinas Realty. An active member of the Winston-Salem Association of Realtors, she was especially interested in promoting lower-income housing. She was involved in many civic organizations, notably the League of Women Voters, American Association of University Women, The Women's Club, Church Women United and Habitat for Humanity. A member of Wake Forest Baptist Church since 1959, she served on the Diaconate and in numerous other capacities. In 2006, she and her husband went with their church group to New Orleans to help rebuild a house for Katrina victims.
She is survived by her husband of 55 years, William F. Humbert III; two sons, William Lindsley Humbert and his wife, Karen, and John Bryan Humbert and his wife, Roshanak; daughter, Nancy Humbert Sweeney and her husband, Christopher; three grandchildren, Austin Humbert, and Alison and Patrick Sweeney; brother, John C. Joyner Jr.; and sister, Nancy C. Joyner.
Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, April 19, 2008 in West Memorial Park, Weaverville with the Reverend Karen F. Humbert officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Habitat for Humanity, Samaritan Ministries, or First Baptist Church, Asheville.
