Jeffrey Lee Sawyer

JEFFREY LEE SAWYER ASHEVILLE - Jeffrey Lee Sawyer, age 34 of 849 Old Marshall Highway was eternally healed on September 4, 2015. Jeff was born on January 1, 1981 in Buncombe County, where he lived all of his life. Jeff had endless talents. He loved rebuilding motors, installing car stereo systems, and wood carving among many other things. He loved camping, hunting, fishing, target shooting and playing with his niece, Morghan. Jeff victoriously overcame many challenges after his spinal cord injury in 1998. His will, determination, and positive attitude was an inspiration to all who knew him. He was preceded in death by his "Papaw" - Terrell Atkins, "Popa Jim" - James Sawyer and "Granny Marge" - Marjorie Sawyer. Surviving are his parents Steve and Barbara Sawyer of Asheville; sister, Keri Mathews and husband Zac; and niece, Morghan of Waynesville; maternal grandmother, Mary Atkins of Asheville; aunts, Brenda Shores and husband Randy of Weaverville, and Sarah Fouts of Candler; uncle, Jimmy Lee Sawyer of Hendersonville; cousins, Cindy Shores and husband Buddy, Aimee Rogers and husband Scott, Tracey Reeder and husband Matt, Kamiyo Lanning and husband Mack, Chi Shipman and husband Brandon, and Tina Tallent; and also eleven special second cousins. The family would like to thank Justin Capps for being such a loyal friend to Jeff. They would also like to thank all the people that were involved in Jeff's care over the years. His funeral service will be held at 2:30 p.m., Wednesday, September 9, 2015, in the chapel of West Funeral Home, 17 Merrimon Ave., Weaverville, with the Reverend Sarah Fouts officiating. Burial will be in West Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, September 8, 2015 at the funeral home. At other times, the family will be at the residence.
