WEAVERVILLE - Jerry Edwards, age 72 of Weaverville died Friday, August 21, 2015 at his residence. Mr. Edwards was born October 29, 1942 in Buncombe County where he had lived all of his life. Jerry was retired from North Buncombe Elementary School and attended Mt. Bethel Baptist Church. He was a son of the late Fate and Nancy Phillips Edwards. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife Jane Louise Cogan Edwards who died in 2004; as well as several brothers and sisters. Surviving are his daughter, Wanita Kay Edwards and fiancée Jeff Tipton; step-daughters, Sharon Allen and husband Ron, Bonnie Kerns and husband Ron; sisters, Edna Ponder and Margie Styles; grandchildren, Cory Edwards, Erik Allen, Kelly McCall and Ronald Kerns; and seven great grandchildren. His funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, August 24, 2015, in the Chapel of West Funeral Home, 17 Merrimon Ave., Weaverville, with Reverend Mike Thomas officiating. Burial will be in West Memorial Park. The family will receive friends 3:00 to 5:00 p.m., Sunday at the funeral home.
