SUPPLY, NC/ LEICESTER – Jerry D. Ward, age 72, of Supply, NC formerly of Leicester, died Tuesday, June 26, 2018 at his home.
Mr. Ward was born July 9, 1945 in Buncombe County to the late Clarence and Jessie Bailey Ward; he was a resident of Buncombe County for most of his life. Jerry was an avid fisherman; loved to garden and loved his dog Bella. He was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather, and was known as, “Deddy” by all of his children. Jerry never met a stranger and was always taking care of others. He owned Ward’s Hauling Service. A member of Elk Mountain Baptist Church he had attended Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church in Supply and was proud to be a child of God. In addition to his parents he was also preceded in death by his brothers, David and Bobby Ward; and a sister, Jackie Rayfield.
Surviving are his best friend and wife of 38 years, Diane P. Ward; daughter, Robin Smith and husband, Charles; sons, Jeremy Ward and wife, Shannon, Danny Ward and wife, Ann, and Eddie Cogburn; sister, Marie Roberts; brother, Richard Ward and wife, Judy; a very special aunt, Faye Williams; fourteen grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and other family members and two very special friends, Buford Combs and Roger McDonald.
A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, June 30, 2018 in Ashelawn Gardens of Memory, Asheville. Reverend Michael Woodard will officiate.
