Jewell \ Powell

BARNARDSVILLE—Jewell "Judy" Powell age 67, of 826 North Fork Road, left her earthly body and home to go to Heaven to be with her Saviour and family on June 7, 2012. Judy was born March 9, 1945 in Buncombe County to the late Alice Haynes Shuford and W. Orpha Shuford. She was also preceded in death by her beloved husband, Donald who died in 1991; granddaughter, Angela Nelson; brothers, Charles Orpha and Max Edward and sisters, Gladys King Deweese, Lucille Stines, Blanche Hyatt and Wilma Barbrey. Left to cherish her memory are three daughters, Lisa Duxbury and Sheila Wilkerson of Buckroe Beach, VA and Candi Desrosiers of North Franklin, Conn.; stepsons, Johnny Powell of Buckroe Beach, VA and Kenny Powell of Clinton, NC; thirteen grandchildren and four great grandchildren; uncle, Carroll Haynes, many in-laws, cousins, nieces, nephews, neighbors and friends. She is also survived by the last of her siblings, a very special sister and her faithful caregiver for the last fifteen months, Emma English. We will miss her daily, but are comforted in knowing she is safe at rest in the arms of our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ. Her funeral service will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Friday, June 15, 2012 in the Chapel of West Funeral Home, 17 Merrimon Ave., Weaverville with Rev. LaMarr Hyatt, her nephew, officiating. Burial will be in West Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 1:30 to 2:30 pm on Friday at the funeral home prior to the service.
