WOODFIN—James Edward "Jim" Nolen, age 79, of 26 Stone River Drive, passed away unexpectedly, Saturday, October 25, 2008.
Jim's grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the light of his life and he loved them so. When he was not doting on them, he was a fixture at the Asheville Municipal Golf Course playing religiously with his golfing buddies. He was an avid Carolina fan and never missed a televised game. A native of Valley Falls, S.C. he was the son of the late Parker J. Nolen and Kate Sprinkle Nolen. He was also preceded in death by his son-in-law, Dennis Shelton and sister, Martha Baylor and her husband, Riley.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Nedra Jones Nolen; son, Garry Nolen and wife Alice; daughters, Jackie Lasher and husband Richard; Pam Shelton and Gay Smith; eight grandchildren, Alicia Nolen, Tammy Molis, Kelly Simpson, Mark Lasher, Jillian Merrill and Caitlyn, Beau and Cassidy Smith; three great-grandchildren, Dylan and Jordan Molis and Lasher Simpson; sisters, Mary Ruth Cox and husband Ray, Nancy Sprinkle and husband Jack, Pat Phillips and husband Gary and brother, Bill and wife Tammy.
The funeral service will be held at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday in the Chapel of West Funeral Home, 17 Merrimon Ave., Weaverville with Rev. Don Welborn Officiating. Burial will be at New Liberty Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
At other times the family will be at the residence.
