Jimmie D. Evans

BARNARDSVILLE - Jimmie Evans, 81, of Barnardsville, NC passed away unexpectedly on January 23, 2023. Jimmie was born in Stockton, NC to John Roy and Sallie Louise Evans on April 09, 1941, and was a lifelong resident of Buncombe County.

Jimmie is survived by his three children, Jimmie Evans (Patricia), Rhonda Herron (Roger) and Cathy Buckner (Alan). Jimmie was a loving grandfather to nine grandchildren, Brandi Herron, Jeff Herron (Jessica), Amber Wheeler (David), Felicia Van Blarcum (Brad), Michael Buckner (Tiffany), Brody Buckner (Savannah), Tina Cochran (Michael), Westley Evans (Ashley), Nick Evans (Callie) and twenty great-grandchildren, Dante, Kaylee, Kaitlyn, Harper, Aspyn, Kyler, Harmony, Julianna, Oakley, Kinsley, Emmaline, Lilah, Liam, Cormac, Masin, Azia, Wyatt, Allyson, Callie, and Gabe. Jimmy is preceded in death by his wife of 51 years, Mary Jean Clark Evans, his father, John Roy Evans; mother, Sallie Louise Evans; stepmother, Martha Evans; brother Henry Evans; and sister, Peggy Edwards.

Jimmie was a truck driver for most of his life and retired after more than 45 years behind the wheel. In his younger years, he was an avid horseman and enjoyed camping, boating, and traveling with friends and family. In his spare time, he liked to wood-work, watch westerns, and spend time with his family and friends. Jimmie was loved by all and could always be found telling stories about his truck driving days and having a good time wherever he was.

Visitation will be held at West Funeral Home, 17 Merrimon Ave., Weaverville on Saturday, January 28^th from 6pm-8pm. A private graveside service will follow at a later date officiated by Reverends Brian Hanrahan and Will Edmonds. At other times, the family will receive friends at the family home.

In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made instead to the Hope Chest for Women of Asheville in memory of Jimmie and Mary Evans.
