Joan Ann Williamson

Today we announce the passing of Joan Ann Williamson (4/29/1937 – 1/29/2022), preceded in death by her Husband Kenneth Wesley Williamson (11/15/1932 – 11/14/2012).

Her childhood was spent mostly in Darby, Pennsylvania where she splashed around in Cobbs Creek and played Cowboys and Indians in the nearby meadows with her siblings.  At 17 she met her future husband Ken and together they began her family.  During this time, she and Ken bought and ran a horse stable and riding academy to share their love of horses with their community citizens. Years later she and Ken moved to New Jersey with six children in tow, purchasing and operating a series of gas stations in their neighborhood. Eventually, they would crave a change of pace, purchasing a cattle farm in Chase City, Virginia and starting their building and construction company J&K Builders.  Combining their hard work ethic and love of travel, they were able to travel all over the U.S. taking in many of the sights many states had to offer. All while being able to return to their quiet farm life between jobs. Ever the survivor, she was working in New York City when the tragic events of September 11th occurred. A memory she would carry for the rest of her days.

Eventually Mom & Dad sold the farm and moved to Weaverville, NC to live with their daughter Leigh.  She loved living ten minutes from any grocery store and could be found spending her days couponing and looting local claw machines of their stuffed loot to donate to local children.

During her lifetime she achieved the titles of: Wife, Mom, Grandmother, Great Grandmother, Sister, Niece, Aunt, Great Aunt, Godmother and Best Friend. She was a strong, caring woman who spent her days sharing her love and wisdom with her family. We will forever be grateful to have spent the time we did with this wonderful lady and we will spend the rest of our lives sharing the lessons and wisdom she instilled in us all.
