REV. JOE D. SELLARS, JR. WEAVERVILLE – Rev. Joe D. Sellars, Jr., age 81, of Dula Springs Road died Monday, August 15, 2016. Rev. Sellars was born July 24, 1935 in Buncombe County where he had lived most of his life. He formerly worked at Three Mountaineers and Steelcase. After retirement he ran a woodworking shop out of his home for several years. Rev. Sellars began his ministry in 1958 and pastored his first church in 1960. He went on to pastor churches in Buncombe, Madison and Haywood Counties and in East Tennessee. He was the son of the late Joe Daniel Sellars, Sr. and Glenna Hyde Sellars and husband of the late Mildred Gass Sellars who died in 2004. Also preceding him in death are his sisters, Hester Warren and Martha Bailey. Surviving are his daughters, Joy Eller and husband Barry; Stephanie Pastirko Thorn and husband Colin; son, Randy Joe Sellars and wife Donna; sisters, Iva Lee Penley, Frances “Tootsie” Watts; grandchildren, Randa, Sarah, Taylor, Caleb, Noah, Amelia; great grandchildren, Zachary, Bradley, Brianna, Ryan, Jesslynn; special friend, Opal Embler, and his beloved dog, Cricket. His funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, August 20, 2016, in Beulah Baptist Church, 929 N. Turkey Creek Rd., Leicester, of which he was a member. Reverends Ricky Wolfe, Marvin Watts, Jerry Shelton, and Mr. Conley Gillespie will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends 5:00 to 8:00 p.m., Friday at West Funeral Home, 17 Merrimon Ave., Weaverville.
