JOE A. SLUDER WEAVERVILLE - Joe A. Sluder, age 79, of Dula Springs Road died Saturday, July 11, 2015. Mr. Sluder was born December 21, 1935 in Buncombe County where he had lived all of his life. He was a graduate of Western Carolina University and retired Appliance Manager from Kmart. Joe served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was an avid golfer, a regular member of the McDonald's Breakfast Club and Brittain's Cove Presbyterian Church. Joe was the son of the late James Ervin and Ethel Roberts Sluder and husband of the late Doris Melton Sluder who died in 2005. Surviving are his daughter, Jeanine S. Phillips and husband Doug of Weaverville; son, Curtis Sluder and wife Denise of Candler; sister, Nellene S. West of Weaverville; grandchildren, Brittney Phillips Whitworth, Holden Phillips, Hailee Phillips, Leslie Ebert, Gavin Stephenson, Jonathon Martin, and Jessica Brock; and square dancing partner, Belva Crum of Weaverville. His funeral service will be held at 3:30 p.m., Tuesday, July 14, 2015, in Pleasant Hill Baptist Church, 754 Aiken Rd., Asheville, with Reverends Keith Watkins, George Hutchins, and C. Lewis Melton officiating. Burial will be in McKinney Cemetery, Burnsville. The family will receive friends from 2:00 to 3:15 p.m., Tuesday at the church. Flowers are welcome.
