John J. Baylor

John J. Baylor, 86, passed away at Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital on Tuesday, January 7, 2025. Born January 29, 1938, in Buncombe County, North Carolina, he was the son of the late Robert and Nora Baylor.

In addition to his father and mother, he was preceded in death by his 1st wife and mother of his children, Hilda Fowler Baylor; 2nd wife, Etta Faye Shepherd Baylor; sister, Alemta Ponder; and three brothers; Robert Baylor, Riley “Red” Baylor, and Radford Baylor.

John leaves behind his son, Chris Baylor (Jane); son, Brian Baylor (Sheila); eight grandchildren: Abby Baylor, Samantha Baylor, Evan Baylor, Charles Baylor, Allison Baylor, Hannah Baylor, Holly Baylor, and Chase Baylor; great-grandchild; Camden Baylor; and sister, Gladys House. Several nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends also survive him.

John was a United States Army veteran.

As newlyweds, John and Hilda moved to Dayton, Ohio, where John worked with his brother and years later followed him to New Orleans, Louisiana. This was prior to moving to Corbin, Kentucky, where John worked for American Greeting as a printer in the Litho Department before retiring.

John loved God and his family. He was passionate about the care of his lawn and gardens. John considered winning the “Yard of the Month” plaque on multiple occasions as one of his greatest accomplishments. Being outside was where John was most comfortable.

John was loved by his family, his co-workers, his neighbors, and friends and will be deeply missed.

A Celebration of John’s life and graveside service will be held at the West Memorial Park, 40 Roberts St., Weaverville, NC 28787 at 11:00 am March 8th, 2025.

Reception to be held at the old Fowler Farm 10 Greenridge Road Weaverville, NC.
