John L. Chapman

ASHEVILLE—John L. Chapman, age 68, of Asheville, died Thursday, April 4, 2013, after a brief illness. Mr. Chapman was born October 21, 1944, in Walhalla, S.C., and was a resident of Asheville for most of his life. He was a longtime employee of Gerber Products, later in life selling and distributing produce. He was a member of Mt. Carmel Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Clara Nix Chapman; and sister, Mary Lou Rios. Surviving are his wife of 49 years, Judy Culbertson Chapman; sons, Kevin Chapman, Darryl Chapman and wife Jessica, all of Leicester; sisters, Sue Waldrop of California and Jeanette Wallace and husband David of Brevard; grandchildren whom he loved dearly, Nicole, Shawn, Dusty, Everett, Alicia, and Jonathon; and numerous nieces and nephews. His memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m., Monday, April 8, 2013, in Mt. Carmel Baptist Church, with Rev. Dr. Ronnie Owen officiating. The family will receive friends from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m. Monday at the church. In lieu of flowers, those desiring to make a memorial contribution are encouraged to consider Mt.
