Joseph Branner Gilmer

JOSEPH BRANNER GILMER, JR. ASHEVILLE - Joseph Branner Gilmer, Jr., age 95 of Asheville died Wednesday, January 21, 2015. Joseph was born in Memphis, Tenn. on July 28, 1919. He was the son of the late Joseph Branner Gilmer, Sr. and Maude Semmes Gilmer Perry. Joseph was the grandson of NC Attorney General, Robert D. Gilmer. He is survived by his sister, Maude Duval Gilmer. Joseph graduated from Gesu Catholic School in Miami, Florida. He spent his early life in Waynesville, NC and his later years in Florida. He worked in a hardware company in Jacksonville, Florida and also sold sporting goods. Joseph was a polite and gentle man who enjoyed sports and music. He moved to Asheville in 1993 and died at WNC Baptist Home where he had resided the last few years. His funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, January 26, 2015 in the Chapel of West Funeral Home with Father Pat Cahill officiating. Burial will be in the family plot at Riverside Cemetery. Friends and family will be greeted following the service at the funeral home.
