ASHEVILLE—Joyce Ada Milne Whisman, age 79, of 5 Woodcrest Road, died Tuesday, July 22, 2008.
Mrs. Whisman was born January 26, 1929 in Detroit, Mich. to the late George and Marie Kuske Milne. Joyce taught mentally handicapped children and sang in the choir of North Phoenix Baptist Church for a number of years. She was a person who shared her spiritual gifts by volunteering as a counselor for the 700 Club, teaching women's bible study and being involved in Love in Action ministry to the poor in Phoenix as a counselor and financial advisor. Since moving to Asheville she continued sharing by being involved in ABCCM's jail and prison ministry for seven years and serving on the board of directors for two years. She also was involved with her daughter, Gwenn in Wedding Inspirations. Joyce was a member of Crossroads Assembly. Her husband, Glenn B. Whisman preceded her in death in 2004 as well as her brother, Floyd Milne.
Joyce was a wonderful, kind and loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend.
She was the spiritual leader of her family and leaves behind to cherish her memory; daughters, Gwenn Ford and husband Rick and Linda Kush and husband Steve all of Asheville; son, Doug West of Asheville; brother, Larry Milne and wife Connie of Iowa; eleven grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
Services will be held at 3:00 p.m. Saturday in the Chapel of West Funeral Home, 17 Merrimon Ave., Weaverville with Rev. J. Michael Brown officiating. Burial will be in West Memorial Park.
Flowers are acceptable and appreciated.
