BARNARDSVILLE—Juanita Worley Atkins, age 83, of 19 Hillcrest Drive, went home to be with her Lord on Tuesday, December 8, 2009.
Mrs. Atkins was born June 7, 1926, in Buncombe County, where she had lived all of her life. Mrs. Atkins was a long-time member of Barnardsville Church of God. She was a daughter of the late Barnard Wade and Lura Lavada Wright Worley. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Rev. Luther J. Atkins who died in 2005; her daughter, Darinda Hensley; and her brothers, J.D. Worley, Tom Worley and Sanford Worley.
Surviving are her daughters, Lavonne Hartwell and husband Roger of Leicester, Pat Rice of Weaverville, Kathy Robbins and husband Fred of Barnardsville, Wanda Cole and husband Randy of Weaverville; sons, James Atkins and wife Brenda of Black Mountain, Larry Atkins and wife Brenda of Barnardsville; sisters, Dorothy Smith and Marjorie Summey of Asheville; 14 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.
Mrs. Atkins' funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, December 11, 2009, in the Chapel of West Funeral Home, 17 Merrimon Ave., Weaverville, with Rev. Darrell McClaren and Rev. Junior Bennett officiating. Burial will be in Clark's Chapel Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
At other times, the family will be at the residence.
