BARNARDSVILLE—Taylor "June" Carson, Jr., age 87, of 608 Dillingham Road, died Tuesday, March 24, 2009.
June was born in Buncombe County on August 12, 1921, to the late Taylor B. and Ethel D. Carson. Also preceding him in death was a son, Jimmy Carson, one brother and five sisters. June was a World War II veteran serving in North Africa, Italy, France and Trinidad. He retired from the U.S. Postal Service as a rural mail carrier with 30 years service, becoming a member of the Million Mile Club for outstanding driving performance. June was a member of Dillingham Presbyterian Church where he was a former deacon and elder. He was a former EMT and fireman with the Barnardsville Volunteer Fire Department where he was a charter member helping to organize the department in 1958. June was an active member of the Big Ivy Community Club for 30 years and was Buncombe County Man of the Year in 1997.
Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Hilda West Carson; daughter, Gail Saye and husband Ernie of Barnardsville; and grandsons, Jim Saye and his wife, Lisa and Stuart Saye, all of Weaverville.
Funeral services will be held at 7:00 p.m. Thursday, March 26, 2009, in Dillingham Presbyterian Church with Rev. Richard Hicks and Rev. Joseph Willis officiating.
The family will receive friends following the service at the church until 8:30 p.m.
Graveside services will be held Friday at 11:00 a.m. in West Memorial Park with Rev. Steve Conard officiating.
