Junior Lee Wilson

WEAVERVILLE– Junior Lee Wilson, age 78, of Weaverville, entered into his heavenly home, Wednesday, February 13, 2019.

Junior was born December 22, 1940 in Buncombe County to the late Grover and Juanita Jarvis Wilson.  Junior enjoyed hunting, fly fishing, bass fishing, camping and going to the lake with his family, as well as raising a garden to share with his neighbors. He enjoyed traveling to “Singing in the Sun” and to Atlanta Braves baseball games. He was a former little league and Babe Ruth coach in the NB Youth League and coached the J.V. boy’s baseball team at NBHS, he also coached the Beech women’s softball team, winning numerous championships.   He was a retired volunteer fireman, and was a charter member serving on the Board of Directors at Reems Creek FD since it began in 1966.  Junior worked with Merchants Construction and retired as superintendent from D. Michael Ward Construction. He was very active in the Beech Community Club; and a former Deacon and Elder, serving as the Building Committee Chairperson at Reems Creek Beech Presbyterian Church.  As an active member of Newbridge Baptist Church, he served on the Building and Grounds Committee, and the Kitchen Committee.  He was also preceded in death by his son, Johnny Wilson and grandson, Bradlee Wilson.

He is survived by his best friend and loving wife of 55 years, Susan Smith Wilson; daughter, Cindy, brother, Robert, niece Marcia Dies husband John, and several cousins.

His funeral service will be held at 3:00 p.m. Saturday, February 16, 2019 in Newbridge Baptist Church, 199 Elkwood Ave, Asheville, NC  28804. Reverends Clark Henderson and Wesley Pike will officiate. Honors will be conducted by the Buncombe County Fire Fighter’s Honor Guard.   Burial will follow in West Memorial Park Weaverville.

The family will receive friends 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday, February 15, 2019 at Newbridge Baptist Church.
