KARL-HEINZ KOWA
WEAVERVILLE - On Saturday, April 18, 2015 Karl-Heinz Kowa, age 88 passed away in his sleep in Weaverville, NC.
Mr. Kowa was born November 20, 1926 in Germany. He was a World War II Veteran, surviving 4 years as a prisoner of war. Mr. Kowa immigrated with empty pockets and lived the American dream. He had a long and prosperous life. He learned to become a precision wood craftsman for the automobile industry in Michigan and later became a successful small business owner in Florida until his retirement. He designed and built two homes, the last became his retirement home in Weaverville. Mr. Kowa enjoyed traveling with his family, seeing most of America from a Winnebago motor home, as well as trips through Europe, South America and Asia. He spent his senior years enjoying having his family around him.
Surviving are his loving and devoted wife of 58 years, Christel Kowa; children, Dina Herig of Port Lucie, Florida, Harald Kowa, M.D. and wife Karen of Arden, and Pamela McMullen and husband David of St. Petersburg, Florida; grandchildren, Christopher Loman, Kamren Kowa, Dakota Henson, Karoline Kowa, Makade Henson, Rian Steward and Carah McMullen; great grandchildren, Dominic and Gabriel Loman and Alissa Wagner.
The family will receive friends 1:00 to 2:45 p.m., Saturday, April 25, 2015 at West Funeral Home, 17 Merrimon Ave., Weaverville.
A brief graveside service will be held at 3:00 p.m. Saturday following the visitation in West Memorial Park, 40 Roberts Street, Weaverville.
In lieu of bereavement floral arrangements plantable bushes, trees or flowers are welcome and may be brought to the funeral home prior to the visitation.
