Kate Marie Williams Metcalf

Kate Marie Williams Metcalf, age 91, of Weaverville, passed away February 7, 2023, at the Solace Center. 

Mrs. Metcalf was born on June 29, 1931, in Buncombe County where she lived all her life.  She worked at Dayco for over 30 years, retiring when she was in her early 80s.  She was a devoted mother and loving grandmother, who had a good sense of humor.  In her spare time she enjoyed gardening, word searches and puzzles.  She previously attended Flat Creek Baptist Church. 

Mrs. Metcalf was the daughter of the late Mercus Hoke and Letha Ballard Williams.  She is preceded in death by husbands, Henry Arrington in 1966 and Woodrow Metcalf in 1981; four brothers, Fred, Jack, Homer and Fate Williams; and son-in-law, Sgt. Thomas C. Ray. 

Mrs. Metcalf is survived by her children, David “Wahoo” Arrington, Linda Metcalf Ray and John Metcalf; sister-in-law, Doris Williams; grandchildren, Sydney Ray, and Kayla, Keith, Brianna and Tyler Metcalf; great-grandchildren, Hunter, Jayden, Athena and Aurora; many cousins, nieces and nephews. 

The family will receive friends 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, February 15, 2023 at West Funeral Home, 17 Merrimon Avenue, Weaverville.  The family will have a private graveside service on Thursday at Ashelawn Gardens of Memory.  In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to your local Hospice, or The American Cancer Society.
