WEAVERVILLE—Kathleen Roberts Buckner, age 85, died Wednesday, July 7, 2010, at Givens Health Center.
Mrs. Buckner was born June 23, 1925, to Sue Capps Roberts and Herbert G. Roberts in Asheville. She was educated in Buncombe County and received a B.S. degree from Berea College in Kentucky. Graduate studies were done at North Carolina University in Greensboro, East Carolina University in Greenville, and UNCA. She taught middle and high school for 36 years in Wake and Buncombe Counties, mostly in the Weaverville schools. Having retired in 1984, she continued Bible studies and several book clubs. She belonged to Western Square Dance Clubs of the area and the Weaverville Study Club. She was the wife of W. Burnis Buckner who died in 1984.
She is survived by her daughter, Dianne Buckner Otwell and husband Vern of Atlanta, GA; son, David H. Buckner of Asheville; sister, Mary Sue Rice and husband David of Greenville, SC; grandchildren, Wesley and John Otwell and Laura Buckner.
Her funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, July 10, 2010, in First Baptist Church Weaverville, of which she was a member for over 50 years, with Rev. Jim McCoy officiating. Burial will be in West Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday at West Funeral Home, 17 Merrimon Ave., Weaverville.
