ASHEVILLE—Kathleen Marie Wright Landon, 82, of Larlyn Lane, Asheville, passed to her heavenly home on Friday, February 6. A life long resident of Buncombe County, she was a daughter of the late Fred and Susie Wright of Weaverville, and was the loving wife of Milton Landon for the past 61 years.
A graduate of West Buncombe High School and Blanton's Business College, Kathleen worked for the Federal Government's Division of the Postal Accounts for 8 years. Her passion for life and family made her a devoted wife, mother and homemaker. A member of Weaverville First Baptist Church for the past 59 years, Kathleen was active in the choir, Sunday school, WMU, prayer chain, committees, etc. She was admired by all who knew her for her endless faith even when faced with a debilitating illness.
In addition to her husband, survivors include a son and wife, Larry and Darlene Landon, a daughter and husband, Lynn and Carl McGalliard of Asheville and 6 grandchildren: Marc, Lauren, Ryan, Matthew, Katie and Jessie, one great granddaughter, Annalise and many nieces and nephews. Also surviving is a brother and sister, Jerry Wright and Jane Roberts, both of Weaverville. Preceding her in death in addition to the parents were 5 siblings: James Everett, Billy Van, and Mary Jo Wright, Nancy Atkins, and Leo Wright.
Due to a desire Kathleen had for her church to construct an elevator to aid the disabled, the family has requested that contributions be made to the "Master Plan Fund", Weaverville First Baptist Church, P.O. Box 547, Weaverville, N.C., 28787.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, February 11, 2009 in First Baptist Church, Weaverville with Rev. Jim McCoy officiating. Burial will be in Ashelawn Gardens of Memory.
