REV. KENNETH WAYNE MULLIS
ASHEVILLE – Rev. Kenneth Wayne Mullis, 79, passed from this life to the next on Sunday, February 5, 2017, at the John F. Keever, Jr. Solace Center. He was born on May 4, 1937 and grew up in Midland, NC, the oldest son of Brady and Mary Eunice Hough Mullis who preceded him in death.
Kenneth served in the Air Force Reserve. He then continued his education and earned his BA from UNC-CH in Economics and went on to graduate from Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary. He then earned his Masters of Theology from Duke University.
Kenneth was a retired Presbyterian minister. He gave much of his life to the service and care of others. He loved and was loved by those who knew him. He enjoyed life and being a part of the community of people who shared his love of God. He served in churches in Florida and North Carolina. He lived a good and noble life and will be greatly missed.
Kenneth is survived by his wife of 21 years, Una Jean Smith Mullis; and two stepsons, Robert Allen Phillips and wife, Anika Horn, Eric Lynn Phillips and wife, Susan Israel Phillips. He was the much beloved Poppy to three grandchildren, Smith, Mason and Miranda.
Kenneth was a member of First Baptist Church, Asheville, 5 Oak Street, Asheville, NC 28801, where there will be a memorial service on Sunday, February 12, 2017, at 1:30pm in the Crouch Chapel. His remains will be inurned in the columbarium within the Sacred Garden at First Baptist. Rev. Leah Brown will officiate with the assistance of Kenneth’s brother-in-law, Rev. George Davis.
