WEAVERVILLE– Lad Edward Ottofy, age 81, of Weaverville, died Sunday, April 1, 2018.
Lad was born January 10, 1937 in Chicago, IL to the late Ladis Heald and Helen Elizabeth Fairbrother Ottofy. He graduated from Shurz High School and then served in the US Coast Guard. He worked for CP Clare and owned several businesses, including Dallo Woods and Talking Devices Company. In his spare time, Lad enjoyed tinkering with all things mechanical and electronic, as well as photography. He was a do-it-yourselfer with a sense of humor, who built a houseboat and once buried a car.
Surviving are his wife, Margaret Slack Ottofy; sons, Lad Duane Ottofy, and Steven Heald Ottofy and wife Lori Lynn; step-daughter, Laura Brownell Fogle and husband Michael; step-sons, Steven Kenneth Brownell and wife Melinda, and Paul David Brownell and wife Catherine; sister, Ann (Sue) Ottofy Chauncey; grandchildren, Aubrey Jade, Lad Ethan Edward, Brandon Lee and Kristin Leigh Ottofy; step-grandchildren, Allison Brownell Lynskey and husband Taylor, Stephanie Karen Brownell, Nathan Hugh Brownell, Mary Margaret and Hannah Elizabeth Fogle; great grandchild, Haiden Lee Ottofy; nieces Elizabeth Oberton Rytz and husband, Marc and Rebecca Oberton Seybert and husband, Dan; great niece, Anna Seybert; great nephews, Logan Kelley and wife Kristen and Samuel Seybert.
His service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, April 14, 2018 at Groce United Methodist Church, Asheville. Reverends Gerald Davis, Andrea McCumber and Sallyanne McVay will officiate. Burial will be in the Western Carolina State Veterans Cemetery, Black Mountain.
The family will receive friends following the service in the church fellowship hall.
