Larry Moderno

WEAVERVILLE - Lawrence Joseph "Larry" Moderno, 86, passed away Friday, July 15th 2022 at the John F. Keever Solace Center in Asheville. Larry was born May 5th, 1936 in Brooklyn, New York to the late Joseph Moderno and Frieda Esca. He served in the United States Army during the Korean War in the 7th Infantry Division. He was a dedicated member of the Knights of Columbus Council No. 1695, as well as a long-time member of the Basilica of Saint Lawrence. He volunteered as an usher for 30 years.

Larry is survived by his sister, Joanne Schmidt; brother, Nicholas Moderno; daughters, Laura-Ann D'Angelo and husband Tony, Diane Moderno; sons, Matt Moderno, Michael Moderno; grandchildren, Nick D'Angelo, Alyse Hanley, Christopher Siragusa, Brittany Stewart, Kyle Moderno, and three great-grandchildren with two more on the way.

There will be a Liturgy of the Word at 10:00 AM on Thursday, July 21 in the Chapel of West Funeral Home, 17 Merrimon Ave., Weaverville, with Very Rev. Fr. Roger K. Arnsparger, VE.  The family will receive friends from 9AM until 10AM on Thursday at the funeral home.  Burial will follow at 12PM in the Western Carolina State Veterans Cemetery, Black Mountain. He will be buried alongside his late wife of 26 years, Betty Moderno.
