LAWRENCE "PETE" WOODY, JR. ALEXANDER - Lawrence "Pete" Woody, Jr., age 77 of Alexander died Wednesday, April 29, 2015 at Mission St. Joseph Campus. Mr. Woody was born November 12, 1937 in Swain County and was a resident of Buncombe County for most of his life. Pete was a Charter Member of the French Broad Fire Department, a Braves fan and loved fishing. He retired from Kearfott-Singer with 42 years of service as a machinist. Mr. Woody was a member of Macedonia Baptist Church and had served as a deacon. Son of the late Lawrence Lloyd Woody, Sr. and Bertie Mae Collins Woody, he was also preceded in death by first wife Pansy Wilson Woody; and siblings, Frank, Fred, Elmer, Jack, Robert and Jerry Woody, and Bonnie Messer Weatherman. Surviving are his wife Doris Edwards Wilson; sons, Steve Woody and wife Freda of Marshall, Bryan Woody and wife Lisa of Matthews; sisters, Elizabeth Oxner and Judy White; brother, Kelly Woody; grandchildren, John, Elizabeth and Megan Woody; step daughters, Sandra Johnson and husband Gary of Fletcher, Karen Bailey and husband Jim of Weaverville, Sheila Singleton and husband Terry of Austin, TX; along with several step grandchildren and step great grandchildren. His funeral service will be held at 2:30 p.m., Saturday, May 2, 2015, in Macedonia Baptist Church, 1468 Jenkins Valley Rd., Alexander with Reverend Troy Rogers officiating. Burial will be in Green Hills Cemetery, Asheville. The family will receive friends 12:30 to 2:00 p.m., Saturday at the church. West Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
