WEAVERVILLE—Leo P. Meadows, age 87, of 11 Grove Street, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, May 27, 2012. Mr. Meadows was born January 8, 1925, in Madison County and was a resident of Buncombe County for most of his life. He retired from Norfolk Southern Railroad after 44 years of service. Following his retirement he was an elevator operator for the Grove Park Inn. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army. Mr. Meadows was a member of Blackmer Masonic Lodge 170 A.F. and A.M. for more than 60 years. He was a lifelong member of Weaverville United Methodist Church. He enjoyed helping his neighbors with his tractor, farming, church work, and his Masonic work. He was preceded in death by his parents, Richmond Pearson and Bertha Roberts Meadows; wife, Doralee McPeters Meadows who died in 2007; infant son; and sisters, Beulah Sluder and Faye Payne. Surviving are his sons, John and Frank Meadows, both of Weaverville, and Tim Meadows of Woodside, N.Y.; sisters, Gloria Jean Constance and husband Bill of Avon Park, Fla., and Peggy Burnette and husband Donald of Springfield, Ore. Mr. Meadows' funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, May 31, 2012, at Weaverville United Methodist Church with Rev. Linda Kelly officiating. Burial will be in Brigmon-McPeters Cemetery, Mars Hill. Masonic rites will be conducted by the Blackmer Lodge. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday at West Funeral Home, 17 Merrimon Ave., Weaverville, where the body will remain until placed in the church one hour prior to the service. At other times the family will be at the residence. Flowers are acceptable or memorials may be made to Weaverville United Methodist Church, PO Box 37, Weaverville, NC 28787, or Oxford Orphanage, 600 College St., Oxford, NC 27565.
