WEAVERVILLE—Leonard E. Sluder, age 87, of Melbourne, Fla., passed away October 23, 2009.
Mr. Sluder was born in Weaverville, N.C., on August 22, 1922. He was a World War II veteran, trained as a pilot. After the war he traveled the world and met his wife of 41 years, Nadine Eilskov, while living in South Africa. They lived in Africa, the Seychelles, the Bahamas and the Caribbean, before settling in Florida to raise their two daughters. Len worked for Pan American World Services for 33 years, during the course of which he served on tracking ships and as base operations manager of tracking stations throughout the Caribbean, the Indian Ocean, and on Ascension Island. After returning to the U.S., Len worked for the Office of Range Bases at Patrick Air Force Base until he retired in 1988. An avid golfer, Len enjoyed participating in the Men's League at Harbor City Golf Club, where he had made many close friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ethel and Ervin Sluder, and his brother, Charles Sluder.
He is survived by his loving wife, Nadine; two daughters and their husbands, Linda and Scott Warnash, Laura and Greg Reinbach; four grandsons, Ethan, Luke, Owen and Rys Reinbach; sister, Nellene West; and brothers, Harold and Joe Sluder.
