LETA JOE BUCKNER HOLDEN WEAVERVILLE – Leta Joe Buckner Holden, age 87, of 204 Hamburg Mtn. Road, died Thursday, September 22, 2016. Mrs. Holden was born September 11, 1929 in Buncombe County where she had lived all of her life. Leta’s life revolved around family. She enjoyed babysitting for many years and was known as “Mama Holden”. She was a member of Elk Mountain Baptist Church. Preceding her in death are her parents, Lloyd and Charlotte Roberts Buckner; and her husband, James Albert “Slick” Holden, who died in 2014. Surviving are her daughters, Diane Jones and husband Freddie of Asheville, Sherri Holdredge and husband Paul of Weaverville, Anita Freese and husband Shaun of Asheville, Paula Nunnaley of the home; son, David Holden of Asheville; sister, Barbara Gaddy of Ft. Lauderdale, FL; brother, Bruce Buckner and wife Annette Hawkins Buckner of Blacksburg, SC; grandchildren, Chris, April, Jessica, Dawson and Gavin. Her graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, September 24, 2016, in the Pisgah View Memorial Park, Candler with Reverend Ricky Townsend. West Funeral Home, Weaverville is in charge of arrangements.
