WEAVERVILLE—Lewis Sheppard nickname "Corky", of Weaverville, went home December 5th, on his 73rd birthday from his earthly home. He was the son of the late William (Bill) Thomas Sheppard and Annie Burton Sheppard and also preceded in death are his brothers, Gerald and James Sheppard. Corky retired from Caldwell Drilling after 23 years of service. He was an avid deer hunter with his best friend Rick Garrison and also hunted with his brother Billy and nephew Alan. In his younger days he loved to hunt grouse with his brother Don and friends David Mullinax and D.L. Brunette. He is survived by two brothers, Don Sheppard of Asheville, N.C. and Billy Sheppard of Winder, Ga., sister-in-law; Carol Sheppard of Greensboro, nieces; Crystal, Natalie, Becky, nephews; Alan and a special nephew Tony Sheppard who lived with him and Tony's brothers Mike, Charlie and Bill. Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday in Chapel of West Funeral Home, 17 Merrimon Ave., Weaverville with the Rev.'s Michael Thomas and Allen Raines officiating. Burial will in Mt. Bethel Freewill Baptist Church Cemetery with graveside rites conducted by his brother Billy.
