CONWAY, AR/BARNARDSVILLE—Lillian Mitchell Carson, age 86, of Conway, Ark., formerly of Barnardsville, went to be with her Lord Thursday, April 18, 2013, in Conway. Mrs. Carson was born October 30, 1926, in Jacksonville, Ark., and was a resident of Washington, DC, and Maryland for a number of years before moving to Barnardsville in 1977. Lillian was co-owner and administrator of Mountain Valley Retirement Home. She was a charter member of the Barnardsville Ladies Auxiliary, past president of the Big Ivy Community Club, and former secretary-treasurer of the Buncombe County Community and Rural Development. She was a member of Barnardsville Baptist Church. Her parents, Louie Edison and Myrtle Duncan Mitchell, preceded her in death, as well as her husband, Diamond Carson who died in 1981; son, Harold Rogers; grandson, Ricky Rogers; sisters, Elizabeth Brewer and Edna Bumgardner; and brother, Theodore "Sonny" Mitchell. Surviving are her grandchildren, Paula Hollifield and husband Eric, Harold Rogers, III, Michael C. Rogers; great grandchildren, Lisa Coates and husband Nic, Rhonda Greene and husband Scott, Craig Ferguson and wife Kayla, Drew Ferguson and wife Tiffani all of Mars Hill and Nicholas Lunsford of Barnardsville; six great great grandchildren; brothers, Jack Mitchell and wife Judy of Barnardsville, Paul Mitchell of Benton Ark., Lonnie Mitchell and wife Tressie of Benton, Ark., and Dwight Mitchell and wife Mary Lou of Conway, Ark. Her funeral service will be held at 2:30 p.m., Monday, April 22, 2013, at Barnardsville Baptist Church with Rev. Jim Hooper officiating. Burial will be in Thomas S. Dillingham Cemetery, Barnardsville. The body will be placed in the church one hour prior to the service. Memorials may be made to Big Ivy Community Club, PO Box 424, Barnardsville, NC 28709.
