LILLIAN P. MATTHEWS ASHEVILLE – Lillian P. Matthews, age 91 of Asheville died Thursday, May 12, 2016 at St. Joseph Campus of Mission Hospital. Mrs. Matthews was born April 24, 1925 in Madison County and was a resident of Buncombe County for most of her life. She was a Registered Nurse at Mission Hospital, retiring with over 30 years of service. Lillian was a daughter of the late Farida and Viola Haney Plemmons, and wife of the late Wallace Rowen Matthews, who died in 1990. Also preceding her in death are brothers, Wiley, W.O. and Blaine; and sister, Elsie Culbertson. Surviving are her son, Kenneth Matthews and wife Kathy; sisters, Helen Riddle, Joy Radford; brothers, Calvin Plemmons, J. R. Plemmons, David Plemmons, Dean Plemmons; grandchildren, Keenan Matthews, Keea Gilliam; great grandchildren, Cameron, Kayla and Carter. Her funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, May 16, 2016, in the Chapel of West Funeral Home, 17 Merrimon Ave., Weaverville, with Grey Fisher officiating. Burial will be in Ashelawn Gardens of Memory. The family will receive friends 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Sunday at the funeral home. Flowers are welcome.
