Linda Ann Washburn

WEAVERVILLE – Linda Banks Washburn, 83, passed away on Wednesday, November 8, 2023 at Solace in Asheville.

She was a native of Yancey County. Linda was the daughter of the late William Joshua Banks and Jessie Kathleen Griffith Banks.

She was a graduate of Appalachian State University School of Education in 1962. Linda then began her teaching career at Mars Hill High School. In 1975, after the high school system consolidated, she continued her teaching career at Madison High School until her retirement in 1998. Her career spanned from writing in shorthand up to keyboarding. Linda was kind, loving and enjoyed teaching. She was proud of the positive impact that she had on many students over the years.

Linda is survived by her husband, Jim Washburn, with whom she shared 35 wonderful years. She was a wonderful cook and tremendous housekeeper. In recent years, Jim and Linda have enjoyed their winters in Florida. They enjoyed spending time together and making memories that will last a lifetime.

A memorial service will be held at 2:30pm on Saturday, November 18, 2023 in the chapel of West Funeral Home, 17 Merrimon Ave., Weaverville. Jim and Linda’s nephew, Pastor Kevin Travis, will officiate. Friends and neighbors are welcomed to the home immediately following the service to continue to celebrate Linda’s incredible life.
