LINDSEY NEAL BALLARD ASHEVILLE - Lindsey Neal Ballard, age 30, died Friday, December 12, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. at St. Joseph Campus, Mission Hospital, surrounded by his family after a courageous battle with MDS. Lindsey was born November 30, 1984, in Buncombe County. Lindsey graduated from Mt. Heritage High School where he played on the football team. He was employed with Chuck Sexton, Jr., auto detailing at Sunshine Chevrolet. He was so full of love that the smile on his face could light up a room and he had a compassion and concern for others that was beyond measure. He enjoyed football, horses, auto racing, and spending time on the lake growing up. Honesty was a character trait that he had taken much pride in and was extremely grateful for his family and all that he had been blessed with. Lindsey was a hard worker who was taught "hard work builds character." He was a son of the late Sheila Rhodarmer Kuykendall. He was also preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Harold Rhodarmer. Surviving are his father, Harold Ballard and his wife Kristal; brother, Charlie Ballard and wife Elizabeth; step brothers, Josh Kanipe, Cameron Connors, and Cody Connors; the love of his life, Melissa Wallace; grandparents, Frank Ballard and wife Faye, Joyce Boyett, and his buddy, Grandpa Jim; and several aunts, uncles, nephews, and nieces of the Rhodarmer and Ballard families, and also uncle BJ Wheeler. The family wishes to thank the medical team at the Cancer Center in Asheville and St. Joseph Campus for their kind and compassionate care. Everyone whose life he touched loved him and delighted in his presence. The family also sends a special thanks to stepfather, Tim Kuykendall for his love and kindness. His funeral service will be held at 2:30 p.m., Wednesday, December 17, 2014, in the Chapel of West Funeral Home, 17 Merrimon Ave., Weaverville, with Rev. Tommy Murphy officiating. The family will receive friends 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Tuesday at the funeral home. At other times, the family will be at the home of grandparents, Jimmy and Joyce Boyett, 404 KyFields, Weaverville, NC 28787. For those desiring to make a memorial contribution are encouraged to consider the Leukemia Society of America, North Carolina Chapter, 4530 Park Rd., Ste 240, Charlotte, NC 28209.
