Lorraine Mundy Ponder

Lorraine Mundy Ponder, age 76 of Weaverville died Wednesday, August 10, 2016. Lorraine was born October 29, 1939 to the late Roy Alexander and Pearl Anders Mundy. She had lived in Buncombe County all of her life and retired as a teacher’s aide from Buncombe County Schools. Lorraine was a member of First Born Baptist Church. She was a loving mother with a great sense of humor. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Clayton Eugene Ponder, Sr. who died in 1994; sisters, Lucille Earwood and Imogene Clinton and brother, Richard Mundy. Surviving are her daughters, Vicki Sprinkles and husband Larry of Alexander and Wendy Sherwood and husband Robert of Weaverville; sons, Gene Ponder and wife Mary of Orlando, Fla., Jackie Ponder and wife Jane of Hartsville, SC and Clay Ponder, Jr. and wife Karen also of Orlando, Fla.; sister, Velma Harris and husband George of Barnardsville; seventeen grandchildren, Sydney, Meredith, Taylor, Alex, Heather, Jaclyn, Courtney, Bridget, Hunter, Brittany, Clayton, III, Sean, Megan, Mikah, Eden, Lucas, and Jackson and seven great grandchildren. Her funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 13, 2016 in the Chapel of West Funeral Home with Rev. Jerry Jamerson officiating. Burial will be in Ashelawn Gardens of Memory, Asheville. The family will receive friends 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home.
