Louise Cassel Wilson

Tuesday, January 14, 2025, sons, Mark and Hugh Wilson and daughter-in-law, Tammi Wilson were fortunate to be present when our beloved mother, Louise Wilson, age 91, left our earthly fold to join friends and family in heaven. Louise had struggles with Dementia for the last three years and she is now free of those earthly bonds.

Dementia has been a dastardly disease, robbing our mom of her peace of mind and forcing her to live with increasing fears of unknowing and non-recognition. A common concern was her desire “to go home” unable to speak her true want for that place of warmth and comfort present in her thoughts that all of us knowingly cherish.

She was born January 24, 1933, in Montgomery County, PA to the late Hugh and Esther Cassel. She lived in Ohio most of her life.

Our lives were blessed by a strong woman who battled a male dominated society after divorce in 1972. A society in which women were forced to live within bounds of what men thought appropriate. Mark and Hugh were raised through high school without want, and only as adults, have we realized how much she went without so that her sons might enjoy the high school experience without being looked upon as “different.”

A graduate of Bob Jones University in Greenville, SC, she spent a career as an executive secretary for the Treasurer of the International United Rubber Workers Union in Akron, Ohio. Not surprisingly she rose to the high post through hard work and an ability to successfully navigate a union comprised of working-class men. Louise became respected for her abilities and was looked upon for leadership among office duties that included organizing and heading union elections at conventions every four years at various locations throughout the United States.

Surviving are her sons, Mark Wilson and wife Tammi of Weaverville and Hugh Wilson of North Canton, Ohio; brother, David Cassel and wife Sue of Allentown, PA; grandchildren, Christopher Wilson and wife Karah and their son, Quentin, and Scott Wilson and significant other Brianna Blackburn.

A future burial will take place at Indian Creek Church of the Brethren Cemetery in Harleysville, PA.
