WEAVERVILLE—Lucille Buckner Lankford, age 89, formerly of Jupiter Rd., died Monday, August 24, 2009.
Mrs. Lankford was born November 29, 1919, in Buncombe County where she had lived all of her life. She was formerly employed at the Flat Creek Elementary School cafeteria. She was a member of Flat Creek Baptist Church. Lucille was a daughter of the late H.B. Buckner, Sr., and Zora Allman Buckner. She was also preceded in death by her late husband, Willie L. Lankford.
Surviving are her daughters, Joyce L. Burnette and husband Bobby and Tammy L. Ponder and husband Deryl, all of Weaverville; son, David L. Lankford and wife Jean of West Buncombe; sister, Maxine B. Ratcliff of Naples, Fla.; 12 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m., Wednesday, August 26, 2009, in Flat Creek Baptist Church, 21 Flat Creek Church Rd., Weaverville, with Rev. Barry Fisher and Rev. Petty Burnette officiating. Burial will be in Lankford Family Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m., Tuesday at West Funeral Home, 17 Merrimon Ave., Weaverville.
At other times, the family will be at the home of Bobby and Joyce Burnette, 22 Good Neighbor Ridge, Weaverville.
Flowers are acceptable and appreciated.
