AASHEVILLE—Lucille Dillingham Penley, age 91, formerly of 15 Wildwood Ave., died Saturday, February 20, 2010.
Mrs. Penley was born July 7, 1918, in Spring Hope and was a resident of Barnardsville followed by Weaverville for many years. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Weaverville, for 48 years. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Woodrow Dillingham, Sr.; son, Robert Woodrow Dillingham, Jr.; sisters, Henrietta Petit, Evelyn Plamondon, and Jean Tanner.
Surviving are her daughters, Mary Jane Westall and husband Jack of Asheville, and Elaine Snipes of Greensboro; son, David Dillingham and wife Kathleen of Jacksonville; sisters, Shirley Swilling of Asheville and Caroline Metcalf of Valdese; brother, Lee Pike of Newport, R.I.; grandchildren, Skipper and Michael Snipes, Courtenay Gabriel, Cami and Wiley Westall, Robert Dillingham, and Andrea Fonte; and seven great grandchildren.
Mrs. Penley's funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, February 24, 2010, in First Presbyterian Church, Weaverville, with Rev. Skip Gillikin officiating. Burial will be in Whitaker Cemetery, Barnardsville.
The family will greet friends with food and fellowship at 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, in the Fellowship Hall at the church.
