WEAVERVILLE– Lula Poole Anslow, age 91, died Wednesday, January 3, 2018 in Mars Hill, North Carolina. Formerly of Gainesville and Tallahassee, Florida, Lou was born July 7, 1926 in Polk County, Florida to the late James C. and Essie Dixon Poole. Lou was a Registered Nurse and a proud 1947 graduate of the Nurse Cadet Corp program at Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta. Her professional career spanned four decades in nursing. Lou was a caregiver for many over the years. She enjoyed gardening; especially in her Gainesville, FL rose garden. Lou was also a skilled seamstress, a Girl Scout leader, and an enthusiastic member of the audience for hundreds of her children’s piano recitals and band concerts. Lou was preceded in death by her husband, Robert E. Anslow who died in 1984 and a brother, Roy S. Poole. Surviving are her daughter, Kim Hayes and husband Rick; son, Jim Anslow and wife Beth; brother, James C. “JC” Poole, Jr.; grandchildren, Brian Anslow and wife Candace, Rachael Thomas and husband Greg, Steven Anslow and wife Jessica, Christine Sahlin and husband Tyler, and eight great grandchildren. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 13, 2018 in Forest Meadows Cemetery East, 3700 SE Hawthorne Road Gainesville, FL 32641. Flowers may be sent to Forest Meadows Funeral Home, 725 N.W. 23rd Avenue, Gainesville, FL 32609 or, in lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Mars Hill Retirement Community Employees Christmas Fund, 170 South Main Street, Mars Hill, NC 28754.
