Luther Burnette

WEAVERVILLE—Luther Burnette, age 92, of Highland St., died Tuesday, June 8, 2010. Mr. Burnette was born May 17, 1918, in Buncombe County where he had lived all of his life. He retired from American Enka after 39 years of service. Luther loved his cattle and farming. He was a son of the late John C. and Lillie Sheppard Burnette. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his wife, Virginia Wilson Burnette who died in 1992, and his daughter, Judy Warren. Surviving are his sons, D.L. Burnette and wife Harriet, Jerry L. Burnette and wife Janet, Steve Burnette and wife Cynthia, all of Weaverville; 6 grandchildren, Terry and Kevin Burnette, Joan Goode, Jeryl Sloan, Keith Warren, Tena Gentry; 12 great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren. Mr. Burnette's funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, June 11, 2010, in the Chapel of West Funeral Home, 17 Merrimon Ave., Weaverville. Burial will be in West Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. At other times, the family will be at the home of D.L. and Harriet Burnette, 96 Church St., Weaverville, NC 28787.
