BARNARDSVILLE—Maefrie Allen, age 94, of 31 Burleson Branch Rd., died Saturday, December 1, 2012. Mrs. Allen was born May 1, 1918, in Yancey County and was a resident of Buncombe County for most of her life. She was a loving mother who enjoyed gardening, working with flowers, and spending time making her home special for her family. She was preceded in death by her parents, Will and Ida Austin Boone; husband, James Gotch Allen who died in 2001; son, Andrew Allen; and daughter-in-law, Linda C. Allen. Surviving are her daughter, Linda Huntley of Asheville; sons, James Allen of Charleston, S.C., Lloyd Avon Allen and wife Imogene of Burnsville, Max Allen of Burnsville, Lenny Allen and wife Teresa of Jacksonville, Fla., Tilson Allen of Lancaster, Ky., and Eugene Allen of Barnardsville; stepsisters, Katie, Irene and Carolyn; niece, Betty Sheffield of Johnson City, Tenn.; eleven grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren, and seven great great grandchildren. Her funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, December 6, 2012, in the Chapel of West Funeral Home, 17 Merrimon Ave., Weaverville, with Chaplain Ken Kelly and Rev. Nelson Ponder officiating. Burial will be in Gotch Allen Family Cemetery, Barnardsville. The family will receive friends from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m., Thursday at the funeral home.
