WEAVERVILLE—Margaret Johnson English, age 90, of 210 Old Gibbs Road, went to be with Jesus on Monday, August 1, 2011. Mrs. English was born June 9, 1921, in Yancey County and was a resident of Buncombe County for most of her life. She retired from Connie Fashions Manufacturing in 1978. She had also worked at Swannanoa Laundry and the Hot Shot Cafe in Biltmore. She was a daughter of the late Fred Johnson and Gertrude Phillips Griffin. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband of 35 years, Silas English, who died in 1994; and brother, Titus Johnson. She loved her Lord and Savior, her children, family and friends. She was always happiest working in the garden and her flowers. Surviving are her children, Shirley Allen, Joe Johnson and wife Anne, Fred Johnson and wife Lib, Loretta Rice, Sara Penland, all of Weaverville, Steve English and wife Stephanie of Mills River, and Vickie Rogers and husband Norman of Hendersonville; sister, Chloe Swilley of Sarasota, Fla.; 15 grandchildren and several great and great great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Her funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, August 4, 2011, in the Chapel of West Funeral Home, 17 Merrimon Ave., Weaverville, with Revs. Mark Crowder and Daniel Reid officiating. Burial will be in Clark's Chapel Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. At other times, the family will be at the home of Sara Penland, 260 Old Gibbs Rd., Weaverville. We love you, Momma, and will see you one day soon.
