Margaret Smoot Higgins

WEAVERVILLE—Margaret Smoot Higgins, age 89, of Weaverville died Sunday, October 28, 2012. Mrs. Higgins was born August 22, 1923, in McDowell County. She retired from Mills Manufacturing and was a member of Flat Creek Baptist Church. Margaret was preceded in death by her parents, Tom and Ida Huskins Smoot; husband, Edwin Lewis Higgins, Sr., who died in 2007; two sisters and three brothers. Surviving are her daughters, Sarah Cole and husband Ronald of Weaverville and Rebecca Paulhamus and husband Bruce of Chattanooga, Tenn.; son, Edwin L. "Buddy" Higgins, Jr., and wife Patty of Weaverville; grandchildren, Ryan, Travis, Wayne, Amy, Melissa, J.C., Shad, and Shane; and 14 great grandchildren. Her funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, November 3, 2012, at Flat Creek Baptist Church with Revs. Brian Hanrahan and Bill Higgins officiating. Burial will be in Flat Creek Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Friday, at West Funeral Home, 17 Merrimon Ave., Weaverville, where the body will remain until placed in the church one hour prior to the service.
