FAIRVIEW—Martha Rosella Whitaker Trantham, age 94, formerly of Fairview, died Thursday, January 20, 2011.
Mrs. Trantham was born June 9, 1916, in Buncombe County where she had lived all of her life. She was a member of Laurel Pines Baptist Church where she served as a Sunday School teacher for a number of years. She was a daughter of the late Robert Taylor and Laura Wright Whitaker. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her daughter and siblings, Bernie Whitaker, James Whitaker, Arvin Whitaker, Alvin Whitaker, Claude Whitaker, Linnie Wright, Robert Whitaker, Clyde Whitaker, and Elizabeth Cornelius Whitaker Jenkins.
Surviving are her son, Joe Trantham and wife Evet of Fairview; sister, Lela Mae Whitaker Trantham of Fairview; grandchild, Kathy Jo Redmon; great grandchildren, Terry Kyle Wilson, Noah Craig, and Michael Craig; great great grandchildren, Hayden Craig.
Mrs. Trantham was proud to have lived to see and be a part of five generations.
Her graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, January 22, 2011, in Cane Creek Cemetery in Fairview, with Rev. Jimmy Page officiating.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m., Friday at West Funeral Home, 17 Merrimon Ave., Weaverville.
