Mary "Lib" Singleton Broadway

Mary Elizabeth Singleton Broadway (Lib), 96, born in Conway, South Carolina to Reba Inez Singleton and Richard Lee Singleton, passed away on April 27, 2024.

Lib was married to Joseph Raymond Broadway, Jr. (Ray) in 1950, and remained a devoted partner until Ray's passing in 2002.

Lib was preceded in death by her parents and four brothers.  She is survived by her children, Dianne Broadway Hughes (Bud), David Broadway (Holly), and Dante Broadway (Myra); grandchildren, Shanna Carter (Brandon), Lindsay Miller (Adam), Carley Conley (Matt), Audrey Worley (Alex), Natalie Robertson (Sam), Morgan Carlson (Cade), Jake Broadway (Shannon), Alexa Broadway; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Growing up on a small tobacco farm, she experienced the value of hard work. Lib was the first in her family to attend college, graduating from Columbia College (SC). She pursued various professions, including teaching, bookkeeping, and apartment building/managing. A dedicated member of the First Baptist Church of Asheville, she served in the choir and as Director of the Senior Adult Department.

Known for her strong will, unwavering loyalty, and diligent efforts to secure her family's future, Lib also had a passion for flower gardening and cherished moments spent "holding court" with her family gathered around her. She was generous, always sharing whatever she had to improve the lives of others.

Her life was long, active, and abundantly fruitful.  She was greatly loved and will be leaving a hole in the heart of those that knew her.

A graveside service will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Friday, May 3, 2024, at West Memorial Park. Reverend Brandon Carter will officiate.
