MARY VIRGINIA WAMSLEY COONAN 1921-2009 ASHEVILLE—Mary Virginia Coonan died at home on August 19, 2009, and has gone on to rejoin her beloved husband, Bill. She moved with her family to Asheville as a young child and has always called Asheville home. Mary was a daughter of the late Porter and Katherine Bannon Wamsley. She proudly served her country overseas during World War II as an Army nurse. Mary was a loving, spirited wife and mother who generously spread her warm encompassing love over all her family and friends. She leaves behind her two sons, Bill and Tom Coonan, and her daughter and son-in-law, Mary and Doug McLean, who loved and cared for her through her final days. Mary's cherished grandchildren will carry on her legacy of love, Bill and John Coonan, Laurie and Jenny McLean, and the apple of her eye, great grandchild, Aiden Jones. Her brothers and spouses, Buzz and Rosemary Wamsley, John and Blanche Wamsley, and Ed and Iris Wamsley, as well as her sister-in-law, Kathleen Liner, will carry Mary's memory on in their hearts. A special acknowledgement is given to Vicky Manning and Susan Roberts, who cared so lovingly for our mom. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Saturday, August 22, at 9:00 a.m. at St. Eugene Catholic Church, 72 Culvern St., Asheville, with Father Edward Sheridan officiating. Interment will follow at Riverside Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Friday, August 21, at West Funeral Home, 17 Merrimon Ave., Weaverville, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., with a rosary following at 7:00 p.m. www.WestFamilyFuneralServices.com
