ASHEVILLE—Mattie Curtis Parkhurst, age 94, of Asheville died Thursday, January 15, 2009.
Mrs. Parkhurst was born October 19, 1914 in Macon County, Tenn. and was a resident of Red Boiling Springs, Tenn. for a number of years; she had resided in the Asheville area since 1956. In her day she was an avid quilter and gardener. Mrs. Parkhurst was a member of the Hendersonville Church of Christ. She was the daughter of the late Jarrett and Isabelle Fox Curtis. Her husband, William Roy Parkhurst, who died in 1992, as well as her daughter, Wanda P. Markins and son, Larry Edward Parkhurst all preceded her in death.
Surviving are her daughter, Wilma P. Hamlin and husband Ray of Asheville; son-in-law, Paul Edward Markins of Nashville, Tenn.; grandchildren, Corean Hamlin, Larry Hamlin and wife Jennifer, Paula M. Mangrum and husband Donnie and Jonathan Markins and great grandchildren, Matthew and Katie Mangrum.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 17, 2009 in the chapel of Phillip Anderson & Son Funeral Home in Red Boiling Springs with the Rev. J.E. Shoulders officiating. Burial will be in Whitley Cemetery, Red Boiling Springs.
