MAUDE DUVALL GILMER ASHEVILLE – Maude Duvall Gilmer, age 99, of Asheville died Monday, October 3, 2016. Miss Gilmer was born October 1, 1917 in Waynesville and lived in Waynesville a number of years as well as in Memphis, Florida and Asheville. Maude has been a resident of the Baptist Home for the past few years. She had been a Lab Tech in the medical field. Maude was an intelligent woman who was interested in politics her entire life. She understood political events in light of history and was a granddaughter of N.C. Attorney General Robert D. Gilmer. She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph Branner Gilmer, Sr. and Maude Semmes Gilmer Perry; and her brother Joseph Branner Gilmer, Jr. Miss Gilmer’s funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, October 6, 2016, in the Chapel of West Funeral Home, 17 Merrimon Ave., Weaverville, with Rev. Dr. Michael Zboyovski officiating. Burial will be in the family plot in Riverside Cemetery. Friends and family will be greeted following the service at the funeral home.
