LEICESTER – Melvin A. Cole, of Leicester, passed away Wednesday, May 23, 2018 at JFK Solace Center.
Melvin was born January 20, 1941 in Madison County to the late Glen and Donnie Mae Hensley Cole; he was a resident of Buncombe County for most of his life. He worked as a welder for 26 years, before retiring. He was also preceded in death by his first wife, Carolyn Honeycutt Cole; and two brothers, Harlon and Randy Cole.
Surviving are his wife, Mafre M. Cole; son, Philip Cole and wife Susan of Leicester; daughter, Delaina Davis and husband Chris of Candler; step-daughter, Myra Hamby and husband Darren of Marion; sisters, Ava Norton of Mars Hill, and Edna Messer and husband Thad of Canton; five grandchildren, Brandy, Blake, Hope, Lydia and Selah; four great-grandsons, Knox, June, Branson and Ezra.
His funeral service will be held at 3:30 p.m. Saturday, May 26, 2018 in the Chapel of West Funeral Home, 17 Merrimon Ave., Weaverville. His sons-in-law, Chris Davis and Darren Hamby will officiate. Burial will follow in Upper Laurel Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.
