DR. MERLE A. MORRIS HENDERSONVILLE - Dr. Merle A. Morris, age 85, of Hendersonville, died Saturday, July 18, 2015 at the Charles George VA Medical Center. Dr. Morris was born August 7, 1929 in Marion County, West Virginia and was a resident of Buncombe County for 26 years. He was an adoring husband and loving father who had a sense of humor. He loved the Lord, was an inspiration to those around him and a servant to others. He earned a Doctorate of Administration and Education, was an ordained Minister who loved to learn and teach and taught Sunday school for 55 years. Dr. Morris served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and was a member of West Asheville Baptist Church. He was the son of the late Cline and Bertie Jones Morris and was also preceded in death by a son-in-law, Douglas Russell; a granddaughter; and two great grandchildren. Surviving are his loving wife of 58 years, Eleanor Patterson Morris; daughters, Barbara Beale and husband Paul of Lakewood, CO, Susan Webb and husband Mark of Sugar Grove, IL, and Sharon Russell of Wheaton, IL; son, James Morris and wife Michelle of Franklin, IN; sister, Dorothy Michael of Gibsonia, PA; six grandchildren; and six great grandchildren. His funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, July 22, 2015, in the Chapel of West Funeral Home, 17 Merrimon Ave., Weaverville, with Reverend Stan Welch officiating. Burial will follow in the Veteran's Section of West Memorial Park. Flowers are welcome or memorials may be made to West Asheville Baptist Church, Missions Fund, 926 Haywood Rd., Asheville, NC 28806.
