GREENEVILLE, TN/WEAVERVILLE, NC – Mildred Brooks, always known as “Mickie,” went to be with the Lord on June 29, 2016 at the age of 92. She was a longtime resident of Greeneville, TN before moving to Weaverville, NC in 1972. Most recently she was residing in Knoxville, TN.
She was a very active member of Mt. Pisgah United Methodist Church where she consistently taught Sunday School classes. After moving to Weaverville, she continued her dedication at Weaverville United Methodist Church where she was President of her Methodist Women’s Circle for 14 years. Her giving nature was always evident in her service to her community. She volunteered at Brooks-Howell Methodist Home, Good Samaritan Center, and was continually visiting and transporting those in need.
She was well known for her cooking, gardening, quilting, and bridge skills, becoming a Life Master and Silver Life Master in bridge.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Don Brooks, and survived by her three children, Wayland C. Brooks of Chuckey, TN, Sylvia Jo Brooks of Knoxville, TN, and Brenda Brooks-Watford of Ponte Vedra Beach, FL; six grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews – all of whom she dearly loved. Other surviving relatives are her sister Betty Jo Hawk of Greeneville, TN, her sister-in-law, Betty Britton of Greeneville, TN, and Silvia Brooks of Mt. Laurel, NJ.
Services will be held at Kiser-Rose Hill Funeral Home, 125 Idletime Dr., Greeneville, TN 37743 at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 3, 2016 with visitation from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. Burial will be at Andrew Johnson National Cemetery at a later date.
